Contact Lens Rule Requirements

The Final Contact Lens Rule Requirements

What sellers and prescribers need to know

Major updates and new requirements in the final Contact Lens Rule are in effect as of April 1, 2021. Johnson & Johnson Vision developed a comprehensive resource to help you understand what the new requirements mean and the actions you’ll need to take. Download the PDF here.

In December 2020, Congress delayed enforcement of the Contact Lens Final Rule (CLR) from October 15, 2020 to April 1, 2021—which includes the signed acknowledgment prescription release requirements.

Johnson & Johnson Vision advocated through the Health Care Alliance for Patient Safety for congressional language that resulted in this delay. Now that Congress has begun its 117th session, this latest development demonstrates that our collective voice is strong when addressing key issues and will provide momentum to modernize prescription verification through automated calls (“robocalls”).

We’re starting off 2021 strong because of you—and your voices are needed more than ever to build on our groundswell of action and ensure that Congress continues to hear from the eye care community firsthand.
